Founder and Director, Deacon Georgia Carney of the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester. Georgia is responsible for developing the relationship with the original SewGreen in Ithaca and for writing the grant which secured our initial funds from the National Episcopal Church in 2015. Her professional background includes more than 30 years in professional costume construction and design, including 28 years at Geva Theatre Center. Georgia was ordained to the Episcopal diaconate in 2015 and combines her lifelong love of sewing as empowering, creative. and practical with a commitment to environmentally sustainable craft. She brings her skill in clothing construction, draping, pattern making, alterations, mending, knitting, and much more to the people of Rochester, both at SewGreen Rochester and through The Mending Ministry (founded in 2011) and The Sewing Workshop at St. Stephen’s (founded in 2015). Currently, she serves as Deacon at the South Wedge Mission.
