Georgia Carney,Founder and President of the Board

Our Founder and President of the Board is Deacon Georgia Carney of the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester, whose professional background includes more than 30 years in professional costume construction, including 28 years at Geva Theatre Center. She brings her skill in clothing construction, patternmaking, alterations, mending, knitting, and much more to the people of Rochester. Serving as a Deacon from 2014 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Chili Avenue, she was active in community gardening, Kids’ Club (in cooperation with Baden St. Settlement House), the Mending Ministry at St. Stephen’s Sunday Suppers, and the Sewing Workshop. This community-building ministry would lead to the founding of SewGreen@Rochester in 2015 through a National Episcopal Church grant. Deacon Georgia currently serves at the South Wedge Mission where she started the first local branch of International Repair Café and continues to be active in community gardening.
