This club is for all crochet enthusiasts, from absolute beginner to advanced.  So bring your yarn, tools, and projects to SewGreen@Rochester for some new ideas, help, or just to meet other crocheters in town! (Knitters welcome!)

If you are new, or it's been a long time since you've picked up the hook, this is the class for you. Learn how to crochet, or refresh your skills. Jane will help you get started with the basics of crocheting, or help you move beyond the beginner level.

Family Sewing Club

Make an Apron

Class Description:

Simple, elaborate, plain or fancy -- aprons are fun and easy to make. You’ll start with the basics and learn how to design, piece, add trim, and create as complicated an apron as you like. Finish something fun while learning lots of new sewing skills!

Microwave Fabric Bowl Cozy

Class Description:

Make a cozy for your bowl. Put the cozy under the bowl when you put it into the microwave and it serves as a potholder. Use it under a hot bowl of soup and enjoy your soup without burning your hands.

Pattern Rub-Off Boot Camp

Class Description:

Do you have a garment that you love to wear? It's the perfect fit, or drape, and you just can't find another quite like it? Don't despair! You don't have to take it apart to duplicate it. Bring it in, and we will help you recreate it without tearing apart your favorite piece of clothing.

Quilt Block of the Month

Class Description:

Join our monthly quilt class and learn the techniques of modern quilt piecing. Learn to use modern quilt measuring and cutting tools to create a unique quilt block each month. Straight seams, points, and curves will be taught, along with the all-important ¼ inch seam allowance. You will complete a quilt block in each class. Join us each month or take the classes that fit your schedule!

Serger 101/201

Class Description:

Sergers can be a little intimidating but they are great sewing tools once you understand how to use and adjust them to suit your project!  In the 101 class, learn the basics of threading and tension.  For Serger 201, you've learned the basics but want to go further!  Bring your serger, or sit down at the shop sergers.  If you bring your own, don't forget your serger's manual and all its feet, too!

Class Description:

Make friends with a sewing machine in our shop or bring yours from home. We will take you through the basics of machine operation and safety, and guide you toward sewing a project. Then, build on the skills you've gained in 101. Is there a sewing project that interests you, or that you want to complete? How can your newly-gained sewing machine skills help you achieve that goal? This is the place and time to learn!

Sewing Machine Feet

Class Description:

Learning to use more feet extends your ability to do fine creative work with your sewing machine. We will start with the basics- the zipper/cord foot and the blind-hemming foot- and work through as many new feet as we can master!

Learn how to keep your sewing power tool purring along! We'll teach you the best ways to clean out the dust, fluff and bits of thread that clog your machine's action, and the safest ways to lubricate its parts.

Spinning Yarn on a Wheel with Marcia

Class Description:

Learn to make your own, unique handspun yarn on a spinning wheel! We’ll play with several types of prepared wool and discuss wheel maintenance, drafting, treadling, plying, and finishing techniques to make a balanced yarn. No previous experience needed. If you have a wheel to bring to class, that's great--if not, you can borrow one of ours!

Tunic Boot Camp

Class Description:

Tunics are a comfortable, flattering style for any season. If you have a knit tunic you love, bring it and Peggy Lee will help you make a pattern from it. If you don't, she will help you to make a tunic. SewGreen has a good selection of knit fabrics to experiment with including some donated from the designer Mara Hoffman. If you have a serger, plan on bringing it and Peggy Lee will guide you through using this great tool to complete your tunic. We do have sergers available to use in the shop. Let us know if you will be using the shop sergers. Includes Knit Fabric.

Working with Commercial Patterns

You've bought a sewing pattern and opened the package. What's with all the tissue paper inside? We can teach you what to do with your pattern materials, and how to adjust it to fit you just right.

Working with Dress Forms Part 1 - Padding and Fitting

Class Description:

This is a four hour class. Learn how padding a dress form to your unique shape and measurements can help you put together outfits and understand the fit of your clothing. Professional measurements will be included.

Working with Dress Forms Part 2 - Draping and Pattern Making

Class Description:

This is a four-hour class. Now that you’ve got your dress form padded and covered, what’s the next step? Bring a sketch or a photo and let’s make it happen by draping on the form and transferring from our draped fabric to pattern paper.

Zippers 4 Ways

Class Description:

You will learn to set an invisible zipper, an easy-peasy exposed zipper, a side-lap zipper and a center-lap zipper. We will use panels which you can turn into 4 zippered bags if so desired.
